Summer time is easily my favorite because it becomes sandal season and I can wear dresses without tights. I know some girls have really learned how rock the Birkenstock/sock look for a year round sandal relationship, but I have yet to figure out how to pull it off. So my love affair remains seasonal. Everything about the warm weather makes me feel better. I get outside more, I feel excited to join in more activities, and the outfit options just make feel more dainty, girly, and fabulous. How can you go wrong there? The gorgeous miss Meredith mentioned how easy it is to get into fashion ruts and find yourself lacking some motivation during the dark days (November thru April here in Flagstaff, AZ). The warm weather always helps to wake me up again. I’m determined this year to start off on the right foot (or left foot here I guess) and make a point to bring some beauty to each day. It’s all in the details.
So far, this season is starting perfectly with Farmer’s market mornings, dinner parties, and any excuse to get some Vitamin D back in my life. One of my favorite go to accessories is a bright, bold lip color. I love taking something casual and then finding a sneaky way to dress it up. In a college town it can be easy to stick to simple, low-key looks, but let’s be honest, everyone likes to dress up a little. With this outfit it was as simple as adding a red-orange lip to pop with a denim dress. The rest of the outfit – as per usual in my wardrobe – is very neutral so being able to sneak in a bright color brings a little excitement back to something so basic. If you’re going to make anything stand out it might as well be your smile, right?
This time of the year the weather still tends to get a little finicky too. Another reason I love this dress – courtesy of a personal go-to, Old Navy. It’s easy to wear in the day time and depending on the current amount of wind in this town, I can roll the sleeves up to cool off a little. If it gets chilly the sleeves can come down and it would pair easily with a cute, chunky sweater. Anything that is versatile and can change with the temperatures is a good choice during these in between seasons.
I had so much working on this shoot. I think Flagstaff is starting to come out of hibernation too. While we borrowed some downtown business’ wall I noticed that some new coffee shops and restaurants are in the works here. I have a feeling the next couple of weeks will be filled with lots of good food, some caffeine, and of course, dresses and sandals galore!
